Biography
James Frost is a musician and songwriter whose life and music are deeply rooted in the wild landscapes and creative communities of England.
His songs draw on a deep love of nature, the power of the collective, personal healing journeys, and the awakening of consciousness being felt across the planet.
He has toured extensively, playing shows with Martha Tilston, James Yorkston, Tiny Ruins and many other folk heroes, alongside festival appearances at Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness and Folk East.
In the studio, James has been privileged enough to work with legendary record producer Clive Langer who contributed arrangements to James' first EP ‘Nameless’.
Upon release, the title track was chosen as one of BBC 6Music Tom Robinson’s picks of the week, leading to a session for BBC Introducing and a sold out launch event at London’s Servant Jazz Quarters.
With growing support, James launched a crowdfund to record his debut album ‘All Of Our Hands’, raising over £16,000 from fans, with additional backing from Arts Council England and Help Musicians.
The album, completed at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, is a feast of uplifting songs and acoustic instrumentation, featuring a wide range of western and world instruments, choirs, gospel singers, live band recording and sparkling audio production.
Guest vocalists include Kyla Jade, Carmody, and gospel choir 'Soul Of The City' as part of an international line up of over 100 musicians and singers who contributed.
Realising a huge vision, James also provided unique opportunities for listeners to be part of the creative process. Fans were invited to the recording studios to join huge choirs and sing directly onto the album they had pre-ordered and online audiences helped create a lyric booklet of paintings, illustrations, collages and children’s art.
James has written articles for The Guardian and The Ecologist, and spoken on various podcasts and BBC radio shows about his musical journey and how he has bought audiences into the heart of the music-making process.
Tracks have also been played in conscious movement classes across the world, in places such as New York, London and Moscow, as the songs finds their way out into people’s hearts.
Drawing on inspiration from artists such as Nick Drake, Mike Scott, David Gray, Damien Rice, Ben Howard and Nick Mulvey, James is another in a line of troubadours who play with sensitivity, heart and a collective spirit.
